"We were delighted that 4 of our children who suffer from anxiety participated and were supported throughout. In fact, they felt so secure it wasn't obvious they had anxiety. A wonderful experience was had by all!"
Inclusion Policy
The Outdoors People actively encourage the participation of all people in adventure education. As both a provider of outstanding adventure experiences and an employer, we are committed to going beyond the minimum of our legal responsibilities.
The law creates a list of “protected characteristics” which are age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy and maternity. These laws are currently being debated and it’s likely that these categories will be expanded soon. To this list, we add developmental disability, gender identity, the menopause, health and mental health, and living situation. We also try to support any other personal or group identity that may be a cause of discrimination.
We work hard to include people who may have found they struggled to get fully involved in adventure activities elsewhere. As our school camps are delivered on school grounds and close to a child’s home, we are uniquely suited to support all students in getting the most out of their camping experience and our camps are designed to allow everyone to take part.
The Outdoors People are actively involved in campaigning for the rights of marginalised groups and deliver industry recognised awareness and inclusion training. We strive to be industry leaders in this area but are aware that there's always room to do better, if you feel there is anything we could do to improve then please let us know.
